About Karin

Hello! I’m so glad you stopped by my corner of the internet. Finding a psychologist in Florida (if you’re going virtual) or in the Wilton Manors vicinity (if you’re looking for in-person services) can be time consuming and frustrating. How do you know who you can trust? Who can help you? The good news is that if I’m not the right therapist for you, I’m happy to give you some additional names and resources, who might be.

A Psychologist in Broward County

I am a licensed psychologist and an adjunct professor. First licensed as a psychologist in the state of California (PSY23438), I then became a Florida licensed psychologist in 2011 (PY 8275). Speaking at over 15 professional conferences and workshops around the country has been a highlight of my professional life. In addition, I have presented webinars, have been interviewed on international podcasts, and now I also teach and supervise in the doctoral program in clinical psychology at Nova Southeastern University.

To say I have a dedication and love for the field of psychology is an understatement. My work is a large part of my life. I’m invested in learning, exploring and processing life with others.

The Move to South Florida

Sometimes we make a big move and it feels exciting and fresh! Only later it can feel discouraging, anxiety-provoking and lonely. It is not easy creating a life in a new place and south Florida has its own brand of challenges.

This metropolitan area can be a very transient community with people often living here for a year or two. It’s hard to make friends and create lasting relationships when people are coming and going. Sometimes that leads to feeling disconnected and a lack of feeling at home. Because I have had the experience of living in four of the United States and moving 9 times in 20 adult years, I have a particular passion for those who are in the process of relocating to South Florida while balancing their work and relationships. Know that I believe it is possible to make your life here . . . and make it a good one at that!

Emotional Eating, Binge Eating, Food Body Issues

For most people in the western world, the relationship with food and our body is complicated. Are you feeling full of self-criticism? Having thoughts of “never being good enough” or “being too much” or both? Finding yourself trapped in comparing yourself to others, whether it’s their body, their relationships, their job? Do you have very limited fun, light-heartedness and playfulness in your life? Take heart, you can bring life back into your life.

Changing perspective and recognizing how our relationship with food and body parallels the way we live life, can be eye opening. You’re not alone in struggling with this multi-layered issue. I collaborate with various healthcare professionals (physicians, registered dietitians, coaches) in south Florida to support you. I work with you to create tools to self-soothe and regain more pleasure in life, rather than defaulting to food as the source of comfort, reassurance and escape from life. My clients work toward checking-out less and engaging in the life more . . . in ways that feel satisfying, albeit scary sometimes. Remember though, I’m here to help, not judge. I’m on your side to figure things out. To learn a bit more about what psychotherapy is, look here.
